RhB Vereina Line
Swiss Rail Journeys
Available in: English or German
Running Time: 51 minutes
The Rhaetian Railway ended the 20th century by opening the longest narrow gauge tunnel in the world, the Vereina, linking the lower Engadine to Klosters. We make a summer journey along the route now available from Scuol in the lower Engadine to Landquart in the Rhine valley, taking a diversion from Davos to Klosters in snowy winter weather. We see the building of the tunnel at various stages right up to its festive opening on 19th November 1999. There is also a visit to the scenic old quarter of Scuol, and winter sports action is seen on the slopes above Davos. Shot from train, air and trackside. Informative commentary and music.
